WingTsun

WingTsun is a classic martial art based on Yip Man's Hong Kong style and was spread in Europe by Prof. Kernspecht.

The EWTO (European WingTsun Organization) is the largest WingTsun association in Europe and has over 100,000 members in over 40 countries.

The goal of WingTsun is to enable students to defend themselves in a dangerous situation. The focus is not on muscle strength or size, but on efficient techniques and strategies.

The EWTO offers a wide range of courses and seminars for beginners and advanced users. The training is carried out by qualified trainers who were trained in the EWTO.

WingTsun is an effective martial art that is suitable for people of all ages and physical abilities. It's a good way to defend yourself and build self-confidence.

Do you want to appear confident in every situation? With WingTsun you learn to defend yourself and become fitter, more mindful and more self-confident.

„When it comes to practice, you should never lose sight of the meaning, the goal, the task and the function of the movement.“

Prof. Dr. sc. Keith R. Kernspecht

The European WingTsun Organization (EWTO)

was founded by Grandmaster Keith R. Kernspecht.

Kernspecht, an important name in the world of WingTsun, has made a major contribution to the spread of this martial art in Europe.

Keith R. Kernspecht discovered WingTsun in the 1960s and began studying it intensively.

In the 1970s he founded the EWTO to systematically teach and disseminate WingTsun in Europe.

Under his leadership, the EWTO grew into one of the largest martial arts organizations in Europe.

The EWTO adapted WingTsun to modern self-defense needs and developed a structured teaching system.

Kernspecht has also written several books about WingTsun and self-defense.

His approach often emphasizes the principles and concepts behind the techniques, not just the physical movements.

It is important to note that there are different lines and interpretations in the world of WingTsun. The EWTO and Kernspecht represent a specific lineage that may differ in some aspects from other WingTsun styles.

The history of WingTsun

Wing Tsun: “Beautiful Spring”

the story of a fascinating martial art

Hardly any other origin story captivates martial artists as much as that of WingTsun Kung Fu. No wonder, as this martial art is one of very few that traces its origins back to women. The fact that the stories about the style founder Ng Mui and her student Yim Wing Tsun correspond to historical facts has long been refuted through intensive research - especially by GM Leung Ting. Historically verifiable people and events mix with traditional traditions, political agitation and Asian symbolism. But that in no way diminishes the fascination inherent in the legend. The meaningfulness of myths does not fundamentally depend on their historical authenticity.

WingTsun is a classic Chinese martial art that focuses on efficient techniques and strategies for self-defense. The exact origin of WingTsun is not clear, but legend has it that it was developed by the Buddhist nun Ng Mui in southern China in the 17th century.

The legend of Ng Mui

Ng Mui was a Buddhist nun at the Shaolin Monastery in southern China. Ng Mui was a master of martial arts and Kung Fu. During the Qing Dynasty, the Shaolin monasteries were destroyed by the Manchu occupiers. Ng Mui escaped the monastery and fled to the mountains. There she developed a new martial art that allowed her to defend herself against stronger and more experienced opponents

Legend has it that Ng Mui got the inspiration for her new martial art from a fight between a crane and a fox. Although the fox was bigger and stronger than the crane, the crane was able to defend itself against the fox with its skillful movements and quick reflexes. Ng Mui was so impressed by this fight that she developed a new martial art from it.

The development of WingTsun

Ng Mui taught her martial arts to a young woman named Yim Wing Tsun. Yim Wing Tsun was the daughter of another Shaolin fighter and was appointed by Ng Mui as the only female disciple. Yim Wing Tsun later married Leung Bok Chau, another student of Ng Mui.

After Ng Mui's death, Yim Wing Tsun took over the leadership of the martial arts. She taught her husband Leung Bok Chau.
